Mexico ~ Traveling the World One Book at a Time!

06:14

Hola, hola, Coca Cola!  I'm back with some books about Mexico ~ just in time for Cinco de Mayo ~ which is a Mexican holiday celebrated more widely in the United States than Mexico.  Either way, Mexico is a colorful and beautiful country so vamanos!

What is Cinco de Mayo?

Although Cinco de Mayo is not an American Holiday, it is celebrated more in the United States than in Mexico. In Mexico, celebrating Independence Day in September is more important. Cinco de Mayo recognizes of the courage of the Mexican people during the battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.  During this battle, 4,500 Mexican soldiers defeated the French army of 6,500 at Puebla, Mexico . Puebla is a city 100 miles east of Mexico City. The Mexican army was made up of people with no military training or experience. This victory did not win the war, but it showed the courage and strength of the Mexican troops. The Battle of Puebla symbolizes Mexican unity and patriotism.
